"The deep pain that is felt at the death of every friendly soul arises from the feeling that there is in every individual something which is inexpressible, peculiar to him alone, and is, therefore, absolutely and irretrievably lost." ~Arthur Schopenhauer
When you lose an animal companion, you will feel a wide variety of emotions. Sometimes the intensity of these emotions can be surprising, and they may subside after a period of time only to resurface again. The period of recovery from pet loss is different for every person. We’ve put together information, tips and strategies to help you, and those who loved your pet come to terms with the loss. We’ve also provided helpful hints for those who love you to be the best allies they can be at this time.
We’ve experienced pet loss in our own families, and know what you may be going through. As a result, allow us to share 30 days of grief affirmations with you.
It’s hard to know what to say or do when a friend’s pet dies. It’s all-too-common to trivialize or ignore the loss. But realize that doing the right thing may be easier than you think. We have some ways you can help.
The better your understanding of grief and how it is healed, the better equipped you'll be to help a bereaved friend or family member.
Talking, sharing and even reading about grief and our reactions to it are ways in which we can heal ourselves.
